Thigh Lift
What Is Thigh Lift Surgery?
A thigh lift procedure, also called thighplasty, reshapes your thighs and is a form of body contouring surgery. Other examples include body lifts, arm lifts, and breast lifts. A thigh lift removes excess skin and fat from your thighs. You may want to consider this type of plastic surgery if you have sagging, dimpled, or flabby thighs. This is common after major weight loss, following pregnancy, or due to the natural aging process.
Benefits Of Thighplasty
This type of cosmetic surgery gives your thighs a more sculpted appearance and can make them more proportional to the rest of your body. This gives you firmer, younger-looking legs that you will love to show off. One of the major benefits of this surgical procedure is the increased confidence that it can give you, especially if the appearance of your thighs has been bothering you.
Thighplasty may also reduce the appearance of cellulite. Since some skin and fat is removed, some of the tissue with cellulite will no longer be present. However, underlying fat cells that show cellulite will remain after your surgery and this procedure will not completely remove cellulite. A thigh lift may also reduce the appearance of stretch marks for similar reasons.
It’s important to note that thighplasty is not a substitute for weight loss. The surgery is best suited to patients who are already at or near their ideal weight. You should also be aware that you may need to combine a thigh lift with other procedures, such as a lower body lift or liposuction, depending on the results you wish to achieve. We will discuss your options with you to make sure we can help you get the body and look you desire.
How Is A Thigh Lift Performed ?
In order to undergo this surgery, you will be placed under general anesthesia sedation. This depends upon the recommendations of your doctors.
The placement of the thigh lift incision will depend on how much tissue your plastic surgeons will remove. One technique is to make an incision in the groin to the middle of the thigh that wraps downward and around the length of your thigh. For inner thigh lifts only, you may be able to get a smaller incision in the groin area. If you are getting an outer thigh lift, your plastic surgeon may need to make the incision from your groin around your hip. We will discuss which option is best for you in order to get your desired results and to minimize visible scarring. Your surgeon will then remove skin and fat from your thighs. We use a variety of techniques to accomplish this. We then tighten tissue in the area and close the sutures. The procedure is normally performed in approximately 2-3 hours.
Recovery After Surgery
After thighplasty, you will likely experience some pain, bruising, and swelling. You may need to take pain medication or anti-inflammatories during the post-operative period. This can help reduce your discomfort. You will likely have drains in place to reduce the risk of infection. You may also need to wear a compression garment, which helps reduce swelling. After surgery, your doctors will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your incisions and any other steps you need to take during recovery.
Most people are able to return to work in 7-10 days and can resume normal physical activity after 4-6 weeks. During this time you should not do any heavy lifting, use a bathtub, swim, or use a hot tub. Recovery time will always vary depending on your unique situation.
