What Is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that is designed to repair drooping upper eyelids and remove bagginess from lower eyelids.

Upper blepharoplasty typically uses incisions to remove skin and fat. The procedure is designed to correct a heavy looking eyelid. This surgery can reduce puffiness, improve vision, and create a more alert and youthful appearance. Additionally, it can improve eyesight in older people if the lid has sagged far enough that it impairs vision. In some situations, a cosmetic issue with your upper eyelids is also related to your brow. If this is the case for you, you may need to combine your upper eyelid surgery with a brow lift in order to achieve the best possible results.

Lower blepharoplasty can involve incisions just below the lash line, inside the eyelid, or a combination of the two. This surgery may involve removing excess fat, skin, and muscle through these small incisions.

Eyelid surgery is often combined with other plastic surgeries. If you are thinking of other facial surgeries in addition to eyelid surgery, we also specialize in facelifts, brow lifts, and many other types of cosmetic procedures.

Benefits Of Eyelid Surgery

Upper and lower eyelid surgery can correct many different issues. In all cases it can change the entire look of your face. Your face will have a rejuvenated, youthful, and more rested appearance.

Upper eyelid surgery can remove excess fat deposits and correct droopy eyelids that may impair vision or create folds.

Eyelid surgery doesn’t just create an attractive crease in the upper lid. Other benefits of this surgery are: makeup can be more easily applied, eyes appear brighter and larger, and vision can be improved if the upper lid has dropped.

Lower eyelid surgery can remove excess skin or correct fine wrinkles on the lower eyelid. It also decreases puffiness and bags under the eyes and fixes droopy lower eyelids that show white below the iris.

Recovery From Blepharoplasty

Recovery time from your surgery will vary and will depend on what type of eyelid surgery you had. If your procedure was combined with any other cosmetic surgeries this will also impact how long it takes to recover. After your surgery you will be given instructions for: how to care for your surgical sites, any medications that you are to take or apply, concerns and side effects to look for on the treated areas or in your general health, and when to follow up with your cosmetic surgeon. It is normal to have some swelling and bruising that will not impact your vision. With double eyelid surgery, your eyelid crease may appear higher than you expected at first but will settle into place once the swelling diminishes. Returning to work will likely depend on the physical nature of your work and your tolerance to pain. We care deeply about our clients and want your recovery to be a positive experience. We will do everything we can to make sure you are comfortable.

Will Insurance Cover Eyelid Surgery?

Most insurance companies will not cover cosmetic procedures. However, a small percentage of eyelid surgeries are done to improve eyesight. If your surgery repairs a condition that impairs your vision, it may be fully or partially covered. It is important to contact your provider to see if any or all of eyelid surgery cost may be covered. We believe everyone has the right to feel good about how they look, so we also offer financing options through Care Credit to help you achieve your goals. Contact our office for details.
